My name is Anya Boz and I am a Texas based artist. Though I love working with all mediums, my predominant and most popular art form is my posable art dolls called room guardians.
I made my first room guardian in 2011, and I opened my etsy shop in early 2012. I worked at a bakery and made room guardians on the side, but by the spring of 2014, my room guardians had grown enough that my day job was becoming more of a side job. That is when I decided to go full force into making room guardians as my sole business. I never expected my room guardians to grow so popular, and to this day I feel so thankful and lucky to have gotten this far.
I am interested in the boundaries between the world we know and the spiritual world. Much of my work aims to take the foreign and mysterious subject of spirit realm and tie it to familiar aspects of the visible realm. I want to bring light to the elements of the unseen that go unnoticed, but are interacted with on a day to day basis. My work also aims to create a link between the two worlds. I like to create creatures that one can easily imagine living amongst us, but have small enough pieces of fantasy to remain mysterious and magical, creatures both familiar and foreign, ordinary and supernatural. I feel as if much of my work creates itself. I am only the translator, bringing images of another world into ours. All my pieces have stories of their own that I never took the time to recall. Perhaps I am giving you a glimpse of an important scene in their life, or perhaps I am merely depicting them as themselves. Either way, I know they are not pure imagination, something too real comes out of my creations to be labeled fiction.
