Japanese Baku Room Guardian by AnyaBoz Japanese Baku Room Guardian by AnyaBoz
Etsy commission.

For those of you that don't know what a baku is, it is a mythical japanese spirit animal that was made from the left over parts of all the other animals. It has the head of an elephant, eyes of a rhino, the body of a bear, the legs of a tiger, and the tail of an ox. I was given artistic liberty with the creature so I added my own flair with the many aspects. I dyed faux fur for the body and I love how it came out. It as a clear quartz heart.

Room Guardians are small creatures that protect one's home from negative spirits and energies. These friends can be easily placed on window sills, kitchen shelves, dressers, or wherever to keep watch over the room. Each guardian has a genuine rabbit fur coat and each is individually sculpted from the wire frame to the clay face and hands, so no two are alike. The room guardians' arms, tails, and necks are bendable and Inside each of their chests is a unique crystal heart to give each one a different energy. These little guys have a lot of character and they love having a home to watch over.

 1. How did you come up with the room guardian concept?
The idea caught fire when a friend and I were walking through an antique store. On one of the bookshelves sat two stuffed foxes wearing riding clothes. I contemplated buying them because one could convince themselves that their expressionless stares were actually seeing and watching over the room. It was as if they were alive though they were a long way from being realistic. My contemplation came to an end when I realized I could spend less money and have a better one if I just made it myself. That is where

Beautiful! You've outdone yourself!
Do you dye the rabbit fur, and if so, what do you use?

Thank you so much!

This is actually faux fur. I've been making the switch to faux fur
and it's a lot easier to dye haha.

Ah neat! How do you dye it then? I've been wanting to try it out myself, rather than relying on just what I can get.

All you have to do is water down acrylic paints and paint it on the fur the way
you want, but you have to make sure to use a fine wire brush to brush out
the color so it doesn't get clumpy. You'll have to experiment with it to figure out
how to do certain fur patterns, but I find it very fun.

The colour gradients in the fur are stunning, and that mane!!
I follow a lot of artists that create art dolls, but none quite compare to the bit of excitement that I feel when I see more of your incredible creatures in my inbox. You have amazing skill
