You can just call her Quay....

Quay has a tangerine quartz heart and she was my christmas gift to my bf. She will be his 4th room guardian and boy do I have a lot to say about her. He urged me to try out some new techniques with this room guardian, so she was a first for many different methods and materials. First off, I found these gorgeous rooster feathers at a fly fishing store that I had to try out, and I think they worked out beautifully! Her structure is unlike any other room guardian. I wanted to test the waters with making a fully posable room guardian because I am going to try stop motion animation at some point. I have made some fully posable guardians in the past but that was before I had the ball and socket armature to use.

Quay is built with plastic ball and socket shoulders, spine, neck, tail, and hips and her arms and legs have a wire armatures. Her body is plush unlike all my other room guardians to allow her to move all over. She is built more like a traditional art doll with batting wrapped around the armature and hand sewn fur. Her ears and hands were sculpted with sculpey "super flex" and the fingers have wires inside them so they are mildly posable. She can shift from bipedal to quadrupedal for that reason.

I put a lot of time and effort into her and I am overall extremely happy with how she came out. When I get to making a real stop motion puppet I know what I will change and elaborate upon, but as for her, she is one versatile room guardian!

What is a Room Guardian??

Room Guardians are small creatures that protect one's home from negative spirits and energies. These friends can be easily placed on window sills, kitchen shelves, dressers, or wherever to keep watch over the room. Each guardian has a soft faux fur coat and each is individually sculpted from the wire frame to the clay face and hands, so no two are alike. Room Guardians are not plush, they have a solid body but their arms, tails, and necks are bendable and Inside each of their chests is a unique crystal heart to give each one a different energy. These little guys have a lot of character and they love having a home to watch over.

 1. How did you come up with the room guardian concept?
The idea caught fire when a friend and I were walking through an antique store. On one of the bookshelves sat two stuffed foxes wearing riding clothes. I contemplated buying them because one could convince themselves that their expressionless stares were actually seeing and watching over the room. It was as if they were alive though th

Sculpey super flex? How did that go? I bought some once years ago and was enormously disappointed with how brittle it ended up being.. but wondered if perhaps I baked it wrong?
